Website of the Week: An American in Italy

The website An American in Italy leads with a quote in its logo — Henry David Thoreau’s popular saying, “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you imagined.” I already was hooked.

This Nashville, Tennessee, native, a retiree from the auto insurance industry after 26 years, describes her love of Italy as “com[ing] from someplace deep inside,” not really knowing why she has this connection. I can relate, although I’m sure mine comes from the fact that I do have Italian ancestry, even having lived with my great-grandmother who was from Sicily. Once she really discovered Italy, she found “a very different culture and lifestyle, beautiful landscapes, art, architecture, fabulous food and wine, friendly people, and a beautiful language.” She explains that Italy “…for some reason…feels like home to me.”  And so, she found a way to move there permanently.

The site provides travel tips, observations, tips on the infamous Italian red tape and bureaucracy, and experiences. And it does, to an informative, entertaining, and relevant extent. I have found her content pertinent to my general travel needs as well as information I want to know about Italy specifically. Please, travel to her site and enjoy the Italian lifestyle.
